The basement has been a neglected part of the house as far as this blog is concerned. So here's a few pictures. Furniture maker Mark Verhoeven created a block and mirror just like the kitchen upstairs. The tiles are Italian and bring a touch of luxury to an austere cleansing facility.

New goodies from the US
I went to the United States to visit David and Karen in Providence. David had bought lots of Fire King on Ebay for us! I also managed to find doorknobs for the communal front door of the house, in an old store that looked as if nobody had set food in it since 1932. And there was a green vase I could not resist. While in Philadelphia for a conference, I managed to buy cushions and a soap dispenser.
I went on to Los Angeles to visit Alicia and Wim in their beautiful new house, that I knew only from the New House Girl blog so far. We went on a quest for more fire King, but weren't lucky. However at Sulfas I bought melamine coffee cups and a spaghetti spoon, only to discover later that day that Mark had bought one too! That wasn't the only coincidence: Alicia pointed kangaroo's paw out to me (never heard of) while Mark bought it at the same time and posted a picture of it on Facebook. It's a small world!

Floors
The floor in the stijlkamer was varnished and turned out so beautiful, we decided to put the rug in the front room instead. Also, we had a rug made-to-measure at Karwei, not realising it would be to big to be transported in the car. So we took the train to Weesp to pick it up. Mowing down several inattentive passengers we shoved into the train and then into the metro.
Having arrived safely at home, we found out there was a FREE extra rug inside!!
What a rugfest. But where to put it? In the kitchen of course.
Afterwards we took Trevor for a run in Amsterdam-Noord.
